So much to tell all of you! I meandered the market, could be my favorite thing about travel. All the things to try and I learned there are thousands of varieties of potatoes! Folks freeze-dry them by setting them outside overnight at the high altitudes. They come in all sizes and shapes. I am fascinated by the meat markets and the jungle fruits, the beautiful skirts and fun hats all the ladies wear. Strange fruits and squashes, ingenious packaging with reeds and leaves. Peruvian chocolate and coffee! Fun cakes and frothy fluffs, fruit juices in little plastic bags with straws. Tantalizing street foods and beautiful jewelry made of seeds. I want to try everything! There is a wonderful hotsprings just a ways up the mountain here and you can enjoy the springs for an overnight for way under $20! I am picking up spanish fairly quickly which is surprising and I am determined to take classes when I get home. On the docket for this week: heading up another 1-2000 to meet the bees, then the possibility of touring a greenhouse project (radio show!) that is at 14,000 feet: we will try to identify the native bees and Jerry is very knowledgeable on native species which is SUCH a benefit for our INBF goals. He has experience creating native bee habitat which i am so excited about and we are also going to build a Peroni Hive which apparently is great for mite control. i will also meet a Peruvian Beekeeper who is a woman and has a thriving business. Jerry really is encouraging for the whole female empowerment part of what we do and he feels that I (and our beautiful college and the INBF) can be a good example of how we can create business opportunities for women. i feel so perfectly aligned right now with all of this. I am so grateful for all of you and this and us and all of that. Thank you thank you thank you!
