So, my good friend Daniel Kaspari and I have been talking about - TopicsExpress

So, my good friend Daniel Kaspari and I have been talking about songs written about relationships with specific people…both good and bad. For example, I think it is fairly well-known that Layla was written by Eric Clapton (but recorded under the name Derek and the Dominos) about Pattie Harrison, wife of George Harrison of the Beatles. The song was based on a Persian love story called, The Story of Layla and Majnun. He was hopelessly in love with her and wrote it as just one way of trying to woo her away from her husband. (Another way was confronting her with heroin and threatening to take it if she wouldnt leave with him. When she didnt, he made good on his threat and became a heroin addict for at least three years. One way of trying to get someones attention.) Annies Song, (beautiful song) was written by John Denver for his wife, Annie Martell Denver. Conversely, the song You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi is rumored to have been written about the beautiful actress Diane Lane. And (double ouch) the song You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette was supposedly written about that goofy guy on Full House, Dave Coulier…although she repeatedly refuses to identify the subject of the song. So…would you rather be the inspiration for a song that inspires love and happiness, longing and despair, or just out and out resentment? Regardless, you have to leave one hell of an impression to inspire someone to write a song. Can anyone think of other well-known songs written about other people, preferably ones that have an interesting story behind them?
