So...my sister owns her own geocaching company called Geocaching Unlimited. (If you dont know what geocaching is, just check out her website at geocachingunlimited) She picked up a Raven coin for this years graduating class and set us up on geocaching unlimited. The coin will be cached somewhere on Bella Bella, where another geocacher will find it and take it with them to plant in a new location. This will be logged online and then the coin will be picked up by another cacher and so on. In this way, were hoping the coin will travel - sometimes they go all over the world. Im going to give you information so that you can log on to the website and follow the coin to see where it goes... Shelley also checked to see if she could find a coin that was designed by a Heiltsuk artist, but none have been made to date. 1. Go to geocaching 2. Click Join 3. Fill in the few lines of information to join the site 4. Check out our coin: Heiltsuk Nation 2014 Here is what is posted on the site about our coin: Current GOAL The 2014 graduating class at the Bella Bella Community School (Bella Bella, British Columbia) released this beautiful RAVEN geocoin as a way to honour their classmates, and to celebrate their successful completion of high school. This geocoin, which is one of 4 beautifully crafted geocoins in a series known as the West Coast Eco Totem, has been sent out into the world with the goal to visit other cultures, and to return home to any geocache in Bella Bella by June 2019. Please help this coin travel by logging it, and do not keep it in your possession for any extended length of time. Photos are always welcome! DO NOT PLACE THIS GEOCOIN IN A PUZZLE CACHE OR A GEOCACHE IN A REMOTE LOCATION! About This Item This beautiful RAVEN geocoin (blue & black in colour and holding a red sun in its beak) is the coin that rests atop the 4 coin series called the ‘West Coast Eco Totem’, and it was designed by First Nation artist Tom Spetter. A tremendous amount of thought went into the hierarchy of the images and how they work together to create balance in the ecosystems here on the west coast. RAVEN – The clever Raven represents the rich heritage of the West Coast. SEA OTTERS – are making a slow recovery . . . protect the ocean. MAN – has the power to maintain the balance of nature . . . or not. Protect the FROGS – and you will preserve the balance of nature. The two-tone coins are separate but stand together as one to create the totem (see gallery).
