So once again we have a story and we have another real reason for Russia stealing Crimea, access to oil and gas from Ukraine. This is so Ukraine will have to buy more gas from Russia and make more money from Ukraine in doing so. Stealing resources from a country is a heinous crime and Russia needs to pay the price for its crimes against humanity. It has returned to being a reborn Soviet Empire and the World needs to extinguise this fire once and for all. This is nothing new from the Evil Empire.... Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev says his country’s energy companies would double gas production in Crimea within the next few years in a bid to secure the strategic region’s energy independence. Medvedev said on Monday that Russia’s Gazprom, which is the worlds biggest natural gas producer, has already drawn up plans for the objective. “According to expert analysis, this should cover Crimea’s electricity demands,” Medvedev said. “Gazprom has an initiative for this.” Crimea is home to some of the largest offshore Black Sea deposits of oil and gas. About 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas are reportedly extracted annually in the region. On March 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law the documents officially making Crimea part of the Russian territory. Putin said the move was carried out based on the international law. Putin also signed legislation creating two new Russian administrative districts -- Crimea and the port city of Sevastopol. Earlier, Russia’s upper and lower houses of parliament had overwhelmingly put their stamp at the incorporation of the Ukrainian breakaway region of Crimea into the Russian Federation. Crimea declared independence from Ukraine on March 17 and formally applied to become part of Russia following a referendum a day earlier, in which 96.8 percent of the participants voted in favor of the move. The voter turnout in the referendum stood at 83.1 percent. Moscow has said the reunification of Crimea and Russia “reflected the expression of will of the absolute majority of its people,” and “must be respected.” MP/AS/MAM
