It has been almost a month that we have been fasting. - TopicsExpress

It has been almost a month that we have been fasting. Alhamdulillah praise be to Allah that it has been very smooth and easy for me. Probably because I started to fast at early age. It has been smooth, but almost too smooth that i admit i started to take it for granted. It has becoming nothing more than just a routine. I didnt feel as excited and as full of hope and wanting to do as much ibadah (acts of worship) as i used to. (Ya Allah i beg for your forgiveness) Some of my colleagues did ask me a few times why do I fast. Wallahi I said the same thing as the old woman in the video said; to remember the poor. Apart from trying to justify the act of fasting in the light of science so that it can make more sense to them. But i forgot, what that really means? Do you think it is about when you are able to fast because you know you can always have your favourite dish served for your iftar? Do you think it is about when it is easier for you to fast that you could even close to animate the hardship the poor have to go through every day and night? Do you think it is about when you are at a higher standing than the poor that you have to do it just so that you remember how fortunate you are? It is not that. That on the other hand is sense of pride. And sense of pride is always filled with arrogance and ignorance. It is in fact the opposite. By fasting only that you could thank Allah for that He has been too generous that He has not let us starve even for a day. By fasting only that you could understand that the rezeki (fortune) has been bestowed to you comes with greater purpose and responsibilities and meant to be shared. By fasting only that you really thank Allah, precisely by thanking the others that have been less fortunate than you, but can teach the meaning of generosity and humility better than you possibly can. O Allah, I am crying, begging, that you accept my prayers in this month of Ramadhan i could offer to you, no matter how poor i am. Please grant me a second chance. As indeed you are the greatest, most gracious and the most merciful. Amin.
