So one last mention about the rental car. Having driven it around - TopicsExpress

So one last mention about the rental car. Having driven it around all week we had figured out most of its tech capabilities (well I must admit we did skip the voice activated part). And it was a very comfortable car. Today we left Kingston, Ontario headed for Syracuse, NY to return the car and catch the plane home. We were committed to leaving the car with a full tank, and dutifully pulled up to a pump at a gas station. Tom got out, walked around the car, and got back in again. I assumed he had planned to wait in the car rather than outside in the colder weather. But not so. The gas tank, it appeared, was on the passenger side. He moved the car. He remained in his seat. When I looked at him questioningly he replied that we now had to figure out how to open the gas tank! Tom and I checked every button present on the front panel. We managed to open both the hood and the trunk several times. We applied the brakes, we started the engine. We both got out of the car, Tom to try and find another driver who might be more knowledgable than we are and me to look at the cap. The gas tank cap was smooth and did not interrupt the sleek line of the car, it had no locks, it had no little indentations where you could rip it open. In desperation I pushed at the thing. The gas cap quietly and smoothly opened! Oh my! Who would have known? We filled the damn thing and drove it over to the rental car return, parking it neatly behind another car. A very nice young man from, I would say, Jamacia came too collect it from us. He slid into the driver s seat and asked me for the keys. Oh! This one doesnt need a key I replied with a smile (see...Im really cool) the young man gave me a slightly funny look ( he spends his days starting cars: he knows that!) and repeated his request for the keys. Tom, coming up beside the driver window having unloaded our bags from the trunk, heard the young mans request. Oh! This one doesnt have keys! You just push this button...). I caught on. The key chain had two remote control boxes on it. No keys! That is what the young man was requesting! I was quite happy to leave the car in the parking lot, and I have no doubt the nice young man was very happy to see us go. So far we have spent more time sitting in Airports than actually flying, but we hope to get back by around 10.30 pm tonight!
