So, several months ago I posted the question of What is the difference between a worship service, and a concert?. The line of distinction became a little more blurred last night. Heres why: I went to my first-ever David Crowder concert, which featured All Sons and Daughters along with Capital Kings as an opening act. To be honest, my main interest was in seeing All Sons and Daughters, but I soon found out that David Crowder knows how to entertain, and yet lead others into worship as well. And, I do not mean worship of himself either. I learned very quickly that an idea I had held onto for a while now was simply not true. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big fan of Hillsong, Kari Jobe, Vertical and a handful of others that are known for some powerful and deep worship songs. Ive tended to shy away from the more performance/radio style of music but the thing that I learned at the concert last night was that YES, you CAN worship even when the music might not entirely be your thing (such as electronica). I also learned that hymns, when done differently than the way youve heard them all your life, can breath new life into your spirit, and connect you with the Lord in powerful new ways. All of this leads me back to my original question: What is the difference between a worship service, and a concert?. For me, it is simply, Lets worship Him in EVERYTHING we say, do, and think- always, forever, and in spirit and in truth. Dont let others tell you what is and what is not worship. Let the Holy Spirit convict you of sin, righteousness, and judgement and just worship the One who died on the cross at Calvary. He will be faithful to guide us as we listen carefully to Him, as we work to insure that we never idolize music, styles, or leaders but Him alone, for what He did alone.
