So the 2013 Detroit Tigers have been removed from the chase for the World Series. I am a long-time and steadfast Tigers fan, but that doesnt mean I cant recognize warts and find flaws with the team. In watching their 2 postseason series against Oakland and Boston, several things come to mind looking to 2014: * Prince Fielders total no-show in the postseason. Did anyone else notice his face in the FOX TV close-ups after he struck out, grounded out, made a fielding blunder, or blew that base-running gaffe in the last game? It scares me how the man shows absolutely no emotion. You have to wonder if he has a pulse. Id rather have a guy like Kirk Gibson who screamed and yelled at himself after he struck out, and showed a lot of emotion when playing. Fielder looked to me like he was going through the motions. * Cabrera has to be healthy in order for the Tigers to be successful. The supporting cast is not enough. * No surprise, hitting mysteriously vanished for the most part after Labor Day. Sure, they put some nice runs together in bunches for one game against the As and one game against Boston, but not much else. Justin Verlander gets 0 runs by his teammates in 4 of his last 6 starts???? * Bullpen is shakier than a willow in a windstorm. They wont win a 4th straight AL Central title next year without Dombrowski bringing in some bullpen aces. Ill finish with this thought, given the talent the team had this year--- with this ol saying: Of all the words of mouth and pen, theres none sadder than what might have been.
