So the NFL Pro Bowl came and went this Sunday. I dont know which side won. I dont really care. Needless to say, I didnt watch. As a game, the Pro Bowl is useless. Football is too violent a sport to play a single contest for fun or bragging rights. And, to place this game a week before the all-powerful Super Bowl, is ridiculous ! If I were a pro football player, Id never want to participate in a Pro Bowl. Granted, its a great compliment to make the roster, but its downright dangerous to participate. Every time I think of the Pro Bowl I instantly recall Bo Jackson, a rare two-sport--football and baseball--athlete, whose career was ended by a terrible Pro Bowl injury. Who knows how far he would have gone in both sports if he hadnt been hurt. What a terrible waste of a career ! As I was explaining to MJ the other night, I think Id be more comfortable with a sophisticated computer simulation of such a Pro Bowl game. Then youd have all the best players involved, since, in reality, so many players miss the game due to injuries or commitments to the Super Bowl. I know it sounds rather silly, but I believe the NFL could generate quite a contest using techniques similar to what have been utilized in video games like Madden Football.
