So the Rays traded David Price and everyone is all pissed off about it. Lets be honest.... Here are some facts: The Rays would never have signed him to a long term deal due to the amount of money he is worth ($20MM per year.) The Rays were going to lose him anyways in the upcoming year as his contract was up. If they would have kept him, he has about 10 starts left this year; say he wins them all...... Who is to say that would be enough. He only impacts the team every 5 days. Yes, he is one of the top 5 pitchers in all of baseball. But the person that will replace him in the rotation may win 5 of those games so we would have kept David Price for 5 Wins? If you ask me, we got the better end of the deal. A starting pitcher, a middle infeilder, and a leading prospect. David Price is one of my favorite players on the Rays but he is NOT the WHOLE TEAM. That is what we have built here in Tampa Bay. A TEAM enviornment and now its time for the next guy to step up and impact the team. Whether we make the palyoffs this year or not, purely irrelivant. It is the future of the franchise that is important. We need to be strong for years to come; not just the remainder of this season. Thanks go to David Price for the years of great baseball. Thanks also need to go out to Freidman for having the balls to pull the trigger and put the future of the organization ahead of a thought of making the playoffs this year. This was the right decsion for the franchise under the current enviornment.
