So, the first person that told us the Echo was great didnt give us - TopicsExpress

So, the first person that told us the Echo was great didnt give us all the full details. So, the patch and so forth looked great and things were well to head home. The cardiologist came and talked with us before going letting us know that Kileys hemoglobin is really low and that she is anemic. They dont want to do a blood transfusion so they are going to wait it out and see if her body can naturally heal itself. She also let us know that the mitral valve they stitched was still leaking. She said that there has to be a balance between stitching it up and not too tight because other problems can occur. So, from what she is looking at it looks like it wont entirely fix the problem and that there is more likely a chance of her having another surgery to replace the valve when she is older than not. Time will only tell so we are choosing not to focus on the future, but to focus on the fact that this surgery went so well. They sent her home and all the kids were excited because every Friday we have Family Fun night which includes tacos, pop, ice cream and either a game or watching Survivor or The Quest (whichever season it is). So, we made it home in time to enjoy our weekly Family Fun Night! Kiley was able to sit up at the table, she didnt eat much but got to enjoy the festivities. Before enjoying Family time though she had a really hard cry expressing how hard everything has been and she didnt like not being hooked up knowing what was going on with her heart. We prayed and asked God to comfort her and give her peace. Almost immediately she was much calmer and ready to figure out how to get comfortable to be at the table for dinner. After dinner and watching the recent episode of The Quest (if you havent seen it, I would definitely check it out!) it was time for bed. It took forever to find a comfortable spot, but dad took the guest bed and Kiley took his spot so she and I could snuggle together. She got a couple of hours of sleep and then we spent another hour trying to figure out somewhere else to move to because our bed was not comfortable anymore. After moving to the couch that lasted a couple of hours and then the futon ended up being the last place and longest place she slept and she is still there this morning. So, I think we found the right place. 8) This morning she is much more herself. She said she felt like she wanted to run, but realized that she cant. It will be a process, but she is feeling more like herself and that is a blessing. The doctors have told us she is not allowed near a crowd of people for two weeks in any enclosed building. So, no church for us for the next two weeks. She can be outside and all of that. She cant do anything where she might fall on her chest. They said if she falls or has any trauma to her chest usually the bones shift and the only way to fix it is to go back and do the same thing to reattach the bone together. The bone wont be completely healed until 8 weeks from now. Then she can do whatever she wants. We are thankful the surgeon was thoughtful and cut the incision lower down than we were originally thinking. The nurse said he is very conscience of the fact girls wear lower neck lines than boys and makes sure to cut lower so it wont always be above the shirt line. They said that the bone was cut longer than the incision size and they worked under the skin so they didnt have to make such a big line. We go Thursday to have another echo done because since she has anemia it is hard to read the echo properly. So, they are hoping that her blood is back to normal by then. All is well. We are thankful to the One who made her for His ever-present comfort, strength and watchful care over Kiley. Thank you for all your prayers and support of us. We appreciate all of you. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. He has provided us with everything we need and He promises to be here with us during whatever life may throw our way. He has been a constant and a blessing to our whole family. We have seen His love through all of you. With great thanksgiving, The Platt Family
