So there are several aspects to getting into backbend (or wheel), but the main areas that need to be open and flexible are the shoulders, the hips and the back. Working into backbend isnt easy!! This flow will loosen the hip flexors and back to prepare for bridge and then eventually, wheel. We start in crescent, slightly backbend and drop the back knee. Then work into lizard pose (which is lunge with the forearms down). Move back to crescent, drop the back knee again and slightly backbend, this time possibly straightening the front leg. Back to lizard we go, a final crescent, and then take a vinyasa and do the opposite side. Modify this as necessary! The main point is to move back and forth with slowness and ease, dropping in as low as you feel until the hips and lower back start to warm up. Enjoy!!! xx tiff
