So there was a hashtag about Khadijah, Mohammeds wife, being a strong feminist. It became a conversation about misogyny in Muslim communities, which got me thinking, why dont we have similar discussions in the Jewish community? It was striking how similar the issues are. We are told to look up to various biblical women but then we are shot down for taking a stand. Ive become increasingly uncomfortable with how limited the scope of womens lives are even in modern communities. I have personal experiences to share but theyre a bit painful so Id rather not say unless its necessary.
