So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples (Mt 28:8) It is a beautiful picture - this scene of the women running to the tomb, finding it empty, hearing the news that Jesus is risen and joyfully meeting the risen lord. When one wants something very ardently, one generally receives it. The women met Jesus because they had this great desire to encounter him. If e fervently desire Jesus we will definitely see him and have a deep awareness of his presence. In fact the first persons to know of Christs resurrection and the first to spread the Good News were women. It shows us that Jesus had so much faith in women that he wanted their partnership in building his Church. In the hierarchy of the Church over the years somehow women have been sidelined. Pope Francis wants to change this, emulating Jesus who trusted women, empowered them and mandated them to give the Good News that he is risen. Woman or man, may our encounter with Jesus make us confident and courageous, enthusiastic and enduring - to tell the world, as those women did, that Jesus Crucified has risen. This is the core of Christian teaching. And Jesus reassures us, Do not be afraid. FRUIT: Have I met the risen Lord? If so, there will be many people whom I have influenced for the better. If not, let me desire and pray for this grace.
