So this is my character review for Chazz Princeton AKA Jun - TopicsExpress

So this is my character review for Chazz Princeton AKA Jun Manjoume (in the Japanese version). Manjoume is somewhat of a rich over-entitled spoiled brat and prideful to a fault from the get go. But amidst all that crap hes still a decent character and a darn good Duelist and one of the best deuteragonists from the entire franchise. Starting out in the Blue Dorm as one of the protagonists many rivals, Chazz comes off as a really generic character who clashes heads with the lead on a regular basis. But after being humbled by a few losses, his character arc begins and with that brings a whole new evolution to his character. As the series progresses Manjoume leaves the Duel Academy after suffering the said losses, enrolls in the North Academy and comes back as a whole different person enrolling in the Red Dorm (with the snazzy black grab) and calling himself Manjōme-Sandā (A portmanteau of the words Manjoume and Thunder) with a whole lot of catchphrases. A little less arrogant and now a lot stronger along with his new Spirit Partner (Ojama Yellow, he later gains the other 2 Spirit Partners). During the close of the series, Manjoume finally gets into pro-dueling after defeating the youngest Pro-duelist in history, Aster Phoenix an opponent even Jaden had trouble beating at first. As far as dueling styles go, Manjoume goes on a full offense option at the start, valuing only cards with 4 digit attacks and damage dealing effects. But after his return from the North Academy, he seems to have learned the value of a good strategy, still using his attack cards but combining them with defensive and more field clearing and control cards like Ojama Delta Hurricane and Ojama Knight. This fact was shown clearly when he managed to best his brother Chosaka Manjoume in a duel where the former was only allowed to use cards with 500 or less attack values (he chose to go ahead with all cards at 0 attack) using even them to great effectiveness. As far as comparisons with previous rivals go, in this case Seto Kaiba their character growth curve takes a much similar path, initially antagonizing the protagonists and then eventually coming to respect them and finding the true meaning of strength. But Kaiba seems to be a few notches high on the Douche-o-meter and the pride-o-meter comparatively and continues to be till the end unlike Manjoume. There is also a grateful side to Manjoume as evidenced from his willingness to go back to the alternate dimensions to search for a fellow duelist and friend and despite of his treatment at the hands of his brothers his desire to compete in the Pro League in order to pay his brothers back for the money they used to send him to Duel Academy. He also cares for his duel spirits, Ojamas Yellow, Green and Black even though he has the tendency to be a little abusive to them. As far as romantic angles go, Manjoume has a major crush on fellow student Asuka Tenjoin one she seldom reciprocates and which is often used in the show as a running gag. With her brother Fubuki Tenjoin, however he has a brother-in-law sort of relationship even going as far as addressing him as his onii-san and Fubuki actually takes a liking to him. Manjoume is undoubtedly one of my favorite characters from the series, having a different strategy and one of the more fulfilling character arcs. So its iichi, jū, hyaku, sen, Manjōme-sandā!! :D
