So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the message of good news. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. The crowds paid attention with one mind to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the signs he was performing. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city. Acts 8:4-8 (HCSB) Philip who was one of the men in change of food distribution left Jerusalem, like most of Jewish Christians, and spread the gospel to where he had fled. He went to Samaria where he did not limit his audience to just Jews, but also preached to the Gentiles. This was especially surprising as he went directly to Samaria, a place where most Jews would not want to be seen. Persecution forced the believers to out of their houses in Jerusalem and as they fled the gospel went with them. Sometimes we have to become uncomfortable before we will move. We may not want to experience uncomfortable conditions so we move. Discomfort may be best for us because God may be working through our hurts. If you are tempted to complain because of your uncomfortable conditions, stop and ask God, if He might be preparing you for a special task. Philip had been prepared for his evangelistic ministry by being in food distribution. God uses different types of ministries to bring people along to where he wants them. We do not start at the top, most often we start with menial tasks in preparation for what God has in mind for us. Not every step along the way in being a successful Christian is what would call a promotion. Our Christian walk has highs and lows – a lot of the time the lows are where our character is built. Highs will often cause us to let down our guards. Do the ministry God has given you to do with joy and vigor, He will open the doors for you that He wants. Don’t force doors open yourself, it will mostly likely lead to troubles.
