Tilyenji Strikes Advocates of His Removal Long serving UNIP president Tilyenji Kaunda has not taken kindly to calls for his resignation for having served the party for too long without any tangible success. Tilyenji, son of first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda, has come under fire from some quarters of his party who want him to call for a general congress to usher in a new leadership but he has resisted the calls and has since shown the door to women chairperson Beatrice Kayuni. Kayuni had led the calls for Tilyenji to step down or organize an elective conference to renew the party structures but Tilyenji has not taken kindly to being challenged. He said Kayuni had been suspended for gross indiscipline and Tilyenji has since banned any calls for succession. Tilyenji has served as UNIP president from 2001 and has often only increased his visibility during Presidential elections with the country’s oldest political party having no representation in parliament. He has said he is positioning himself and the party for the 2016 general elections. zambiareports/2014/10/03/tilyenji-strikes-advocates-removal/
