So to try and keep the ball rolling, with a mind to keep us all - TopicsExpress

So to try and keep the ball rolling, with a mind to keep us all safer divers, we could start now with a simple thing that does not involve us being in the water making a refresher course or skill review (remember this is for divers of all levels). Now before anyone pipes up with sarcastic comments, I am not trying to teach anybody to suck eggs, but a simple think like visualising how your diving day is going to unfold, can save you falling into the many pitt falls we encounter each and every day we go diving !! And I dont mean sitting in the front room with your legs crossed humming to yourself, making sure the yin and yang are inline, but simply taking the time to visualise the process of you going diving. This can start a few days in advance of the your trip, by planning your pre-dive requirements e.g checking equipment functions correctly, having your cylinders filled/analysed, planning the dive time/ deco requirements, assembling your equipment and checking weather condition etc.. All of these little things you do in advance, will mean that you will not be under any pressure to do them on the day, when you may be pushed for time due to ropes off etc..... Then start to visualise how the whole day will go, simple things like the following: How will you position your kit on the boat, so that it is easy for you to don. How will you carry out your buddy checks or pre-breath. How will you get from where you have kitted up to getting in the water. Once you are in the water, how will you locate/ swim to the shot line How will you reunite with your buddy team on the surface before descending When and how you will carry out a bubble check and so on and so on, all the way to stepping off the boat after a great/ safe days diving....... But with each of the above then think, what could go wrong and how could I avoid that happening. This will get easier with experience, as the more diving environments that you dive in, will give you more experience with regard to possible problems. Also remember to work as a buddy team and talk about your plans together. Simple put try and be ahead of the game..... The above is nothing new, but is something we could all do to reduce our risks in what is a dangerous environment. Please take the time to do this, to many divers just turn up on the day and expect every thing to work itself out, remember MURPHYS LAW WILL RULE !! Dive Safe :-)
