So, today as I was getting on the elevator at rehab and a fellow - TopicsExpress

So, today as I was getting on the elevator at rehab and a fellow rehabber was getting off. Now, keep in mind I hear every day, You are too young to be in here! when I walk thru the doors. The average age of my class is 65-70. A few older and maybe one in their late 50s. Needless to say, I am the youngest by far. The rehabber on the elevator was Luther. He is THE sweetest man ever. Sweet little face, big smile, and you just want hug him endlessly. He is in his 80s, has had 5 heart attacks and a spit fire to say the least but, the biggest heart I have ever witnessed. We said our His and Byes and I proceeded in with these 2 younger ladies in the elevator. Not either realizing or caring, whichever the case may be, they were talking about the gross stuff all over his arms. Making fun of it and saying it was probably contagious and oh so nasty and even went as far to say that old people gross them out. I sat there in shock and then became angry as sin! My mind was screaming at the fact I wish whatever Luther had WAS contagious. Contagious to cause them to have some tact, to have just half the size of his heart to love others without caring where they are from or who they are, to make others happy a daily mission and most of all, to have the fight in them that Luther has to keep on keeping on after 5 heart attacks and making it to the late 80s. That gross stuff is bruises and thin skin from his medicines that bare witness that he is still here. The medicines that keep him alive for his family and friends and those he makes smile every day in class from his silly jokes and inspiration. The inspiration to keep the rest of us who could have given up after 1 heart attack a little hope that even if 3 or 4 more heart attacks come against us that we got this. Yeah, even inspiring someone at 39. If I had one more floor, I sure would have shared this with these insensitive ninnies! All I can do is pray that no one special in their lives goes thru what old Luther and I have gone thru. I hope that they never have to relive this day in their minds as an Ah ha! moment of how their behavior was and what that stuff on his arms is and what it is from. Just ignorant. Get some God about you and learn how to speak and have compassion. I pray more for their state of mind to not be contagious because you cant fix crazy and it runs deep! #Lutherrocks
