So today is the first work/school day with the time change. Im one of probably less than 1% of the population who simply loathes it. Its unnecessary. This leads me to my post.... So I get to the entrance of my neighborhood. In front of me waiting to pull out onto a busy thoroughfare is Id say a 12 yo boy on his bicycle waiting for traffic to clear... Mind you this is 7:00am... Still pitch dark outside. People use this road to cut from HWY 78 to lawrenceville hwy and points beyond. People fly up and down this road. Although the speed limit is 40mph. Which I think is too fast. And leaving my neighborhood onto this road is a pretty sharp curve. I digress. This boy on his bicycle was wearing no reflective gear. His bicycle didnt even have reflectors. He safely pulled out across the street (safely). I look both ways for it to clear and cautiously pulled out and turned left. Mind you too that this busy road has no sidewalks. My heart sank watching him. Horrible thoughts going through my mind about the possibility of a car hitting him. I mean he was nearly impossible to see. I just had to post this. 1-yet another reason the time should not be changed so early. 2-what parent in their right mind would allow their son out and ride his bike to school without any reflective gear? I dont have children. Therefore I dont offer advice on how to raise or treat them. But I had to post this because as a non-parent. I think it was one of the stupidest things a parent could do...to send their child out in the dark. Do they worry about him? Makes me wonder with the lack of safety gear he had on. (Or wasnt wearing). Off of my soapbox. But I have to ask another question... There are many FB friends of mine are parents...How many of you parents would allow your child out in such poor dark conditions to ride a bike to school?
