So today my company ran across the post to honor the flag. - TopicsExpress

So today my company ran across the post to honor the flag. Standing there as the sun was rising and the platoon sergeant began his speech, the wind picked up and blew open the flag, and it was honestly the most ominous and beautiful thing I had ever seen, because I knew I wasnt just looking at a giant piece of fabric, but a symbol of what today is about. Everything that I have done today means so much more to me..marching, singing cadence, waiting in line for chow.. because I know that the people were honoring today have all done these things too, and have been where I am now. Its both terrifying and humbling realizing that I dont know whats around the corner, because neither did they. Some soldiers deployed immediately after AIT, and not all of them came back. I dont know whats next, but thanks to someone very special to me, I realized last night that I have to embrace the suck and deal with everything life throws at me because Im a soldier now. Its my job to be strong. One more thing.. at the end of the day, while rivalries do exist among the military branches, we are all soldiers, and what happens to one of us happens to all of us. We live, fight and die together, and I am so incredibly proud to be a part of this nations great Army. To all of my battle buddies, be proud of who you are, and know that I am honored to serve with you. Stay strong and be safe. To anyone who reads this, just remember..today isnt about getting to sleep in or having a day off or hitting up a sale at Macys. Its about something so much more than that, so be thankful for the people this Veterans Day honors. Hooah.
