So touched by my kid today. Those of you who personally know Alex know that he was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. He is a normal, funny, good looking, smart and brave kid, who has happened to have several major surgeries, has some noticible scars, and a different nose and lip. While I tend to forget, he doesnt and with the onset of middle school and high school has been more self conscious. Today he got up in front of his class and convinced both the House & the Senate to vote for his charity, Smile Train. He showed his class pictures of an unrepaired cleft lip and palate and spoke of children who are left unrepaired because of their economic means. I am still shocked he shared something so personal, but more than anything so PROUD that he used his personal experience to work. Heart Swelled.
