So was at a pre-wedding party last night. Lots of the guests were there from my Dads pind that had settled here in the 60s and 70s. Many now in their 70s, 80,90s. It was lovely to see all those familiar faces I grew up with in those brilliant 70s and 80s years when families truely got together and kept in touch. Because it meant something to them! And they wanted to. There was a real family and community spirit. I got chatting to one of my cousins who go married and moved to Nottingham and really only see rarely, and only at family occasions. And we were saying how nice it was to see everyone. It was a blast from the past. But got talking. And sadly came to the conclusion that once all our parents had gone, their children (us lot) would probably never keep in contact as we havent built those relationships and bonds our parents did. I think that is really sad. Our generation dont seem to care about family ties and their roots and keeping those relationships going. They seem to be only interested in their own lives and keeping bonds with their immediate families (parents and kids if married). They seem to just keep themselves to themselves!!! Id love it to be different. But dont think it will be. Which I find extremely saddening! And will become worse in generations to come. They wont know their language, culture, ancestors, relatives, village back home as I feel the majority of our generation are not interested in keeping that going or even having connections to their parents/grandparents culture, lives etc. Am I the only one who thinks this? I know Ive always been a bit weird! This needs to change! :0)
