So, weve just returned from having the blood test at the hospital and the platelets had dropped lower than what they were last week! From 83 last week to 87 yesterday after the transfusion and 82 just now! The haematologist rang the head of the anaesthetic department and has told us that 3/4 of the anaesthetists would still give Chels an epidural at the levels she is now and if they drop lower theyd just give her more bags of platelets! He has said that the anaesthetic department have just been to a conference that has indicated that epidurals now can occur with platelets as low as 50! So he was saying that the consensus has changed a lot! So were a tad confused!! We were so concerned because the obstetrics department were SO concerned about haemorrhage risk with everything ( epidural, delivery, csection possibility...) but the haematologist seems very calm about it all! He has had Chelseas name put on the white board in the anaesthetic department and that if theres any issue on the day of delivery that someone will call him and he will officially green light everything! So, we will see what happens I suppose! The OBs were really worried and yet the blood specialist is not! For now all we can do is put our trust in the team and hope to hell they know what theyre doing on the day! Healthy mama, healthy baby- at the end of the day thats all I want!! Any day now....
