So what?!!! YOUR VIEW OF GOD IS AT STAKE! The english words - TopicsExpress

So what?!!! YOUR VIEW OF GOD IS AT STAKE! The english words righteousness and justice come from the same Greek word dikaiosune. This can be very misleading and has HUMONGOUS ramifications for the way we see God! Why? Because in English these two words mean very different things: but not IN THE GREEK! 1. When we use the word righteousness we think of inner moral purity and piety. The focus is on US and INNER PURITY 2. When we use the word justice we think of what we do for OTHERS - especially the outcasts and marginalised. 3. Paul says that the Gospel is about God manifesting his dikaiosune 4. If we take it as righteousness then the Gospel is about God demonstrating his personal inner moral purity [righteousness] by judging sin by putting Jesus to death instead of us! 5. If we take it as justice then the Gospel is about God stepping into human history and putting his focus on us THE NEEDY and rescueing us! So the way we understand the Greek word dikaiosune totally determines how we understand the very essence of the Gospel that saves! On the Cross God demonstrated his JUSTICE by liberating and resueing us from the power of sin and healing us!
