So what was today all about?? Bridging the Divide Inc - #FoodJusticeSymposium had a tremendous lineup of speakers...and a really good cross-section in the audience (y) The major challenge ahead, is to gain traction through a support base of like-minded people in mainstream society...not just minority groups :/ The impact of todays topics will have a far greater influence over the immediate future of Australias Food Production , and in fact Food Security than you have been MISLEAD to believe :O I can already feel a strong alliance between many of todays fellow speakers...and Farmer Gregie - 4REAL ;) 1 - group photo after lunch...unfortunately a number of speakers and guests had to leave a little early. 2 - Sara and I had a chance for a quick catch-up before speaking...hopefully her cafe in West End, Plenty will soon be able to stock 4REAL MILK!! She is also involved with a great initiative - the Australian Youth Food Movement 3 - Cat & Hope from the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance had a really interesting perspective 4 - Rob & Sally from Felton Food Festival have developed a tremendous following in only a couple of years (y) Yes...Sally did invite me to participate earlier this year - but my busy life got in the way :( Next year...I promise :) 5 - Rob Pekin - founder of Food Connect Brisbane, with his fascinating story 6 - Darryl spoke about the huge opportunities in Australia to use Renewables, and become carbon neutral (y) He also offered the QUOTE OF THE DAY - What is the worst thing thing that could happen if we have a SUN SPILL? Wed be left with a beautiful day! Yes we can harvest the suns energy...and never deplete the source (y) Yet here in Queensland...we are hell bent on raping and pillaging our most fertile agricultural land for SHORT TERM PROFITS - that will ultimately leave centuries of destruction :( Mmmm...the 4 Pillars our Premier spoke so eloquently about back in 2011? 1. Agriculture 2. Construction 3. Resources 4. Tourism The strength of these pillars? From my recent experience, if the Agricultural pillar is the size of a fence post...the Resources pillar would be equivalent to one under The Gateway Bridge :O Sadly - Agriculture and Tourism cannot co-exist in a healthy manner with MINING. The science is readily available...but has been hidden from us by greedy motives and hidden agendas. Not our problem? Its happening right in the heart of the Salad Bowl...your backyard Brisbane!! gattonstar.au/news/lockyer-valley-council-host-lock-gate-meeting/2429112/ Food for thought perhaps? Cheers, Farmer Gregie ;)
