on brown girl blessings (because its sunday): last night i admired my body post-run because my legs carried me against the wind, its autumn/winter and my low vitamin d sets in full force but i smile at the fading tan lines when the sun this year (in so many different cities/places) reminded me that my melanin has always been home, i have spent the morning reading Black Girl Dangerous posts and its a mercy upon a mercy to read the works of queer people of colour audacious enough to resist and graft the work behind it, the system is overwhelming, this week i witness angela davis speak and momentarily lose all my breath, sara ahmed points to the constant policing of womens resistance: the narrative of bending the rules of femininity involves a straightening device: you can bend only insofar as you return to the straight line, there are people who spend their entire lives in resistance and service (there cannot be one without the the other), i like being stretched, i like being uncomfortable, i cried earlier this week being overwhelmed by both misogyny and the failures of our men in our communities that often dont show up, i am an audience to a platform or two where white (and in particular male) privilege runs rife and actively silences POC and in particular Black voices and think about the point-of-no-return where sacred/safe spaces are the ONLY option, The Body Narratives uses our body as a conversation point, a stranger sends me an email this week that is a reminder of how courageous it is to feel and to reclaim what we feel, the queer brown girl curse is a blessing - we are breaching so many borders, heretics, with no straight line to really return to we can do something more, be bold enough to imagine, reimagine, think between the interstices and conjure up. god, im amongst a series of collective communities that alone get me up in the hopes of a new world. thats something, to both dare to dream and attempt to manifest it, that really is.
