So whats in YOUR soap? No, really? Do you know what commercial soaps are made of? Lets all learn something new together. Lets use a popular brand of soap as an example, Ivory, the one most dermatologists recommend because its mild and good for your skin. Ok, do you know what Ivory contains? The very first ingredient in Ivory soap is sodium tallowate, which is cow fat. Why? Because that’s how some of the first soap was ever made … but it’s also very, very inexpensive, because tallow is typically the cheap fat/bone/hide byproduct leftover from the commercial meat industry. Another popular base for making soaps is LARD, yup pig fat. Don’t think of that much when you use soap, do you? That the beautiful little snow white bar was made of ingredients that were originally sloppy, gloppy fat inside an animal. Now what about Dove soap? Hmmm lets look at the list: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Coconut Acid, Sodium Tallowate, Water, Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate and/or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, Trisodium Etidronate, BHT, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate. YUCK!!!! Notice again, Tallowate, cow fat. And look at that list of synthetic ingredients and harsh detergents. Want that on your face and body? Not me! Thats why all my soaps are made with high quality unrefined vegetable-based oils, using organic whever possible. Botanicals are used for natural fragrance and colorants. No dyes. No harsh chemicals. All my handmade soaps are also PH-tested to make sure theyre perfect before I share them with you. Just good clean soap with nourishing benefits. Thats it. So, whats in your soap? Ready to try mine?
