So while it was very windy and rainy and many lost trees and power, we sure were lucky no tornadoes were reported, right? I dont mind when things dont turn out the way we planned, that is how you learn. I I do feel a little bad for all of the storm warning posts. HOWEVER, this storm developed just the way it was supposed to, we even broke out of the cool air and made it to neat today, which I was sure would not happen. THE PROBLEM WAS TIMING! By the time like low got here, the cool rains were moving out to be replaced by heavy showers. But then the low stopped in its tracks. That left one band of rain, instead of many bands of rain as expected... it was spinning so fast, it literally THREW the band of moisture away from it ,over Western NC and into the VA mountains; For hours the rain was so light it was barely there..But finally the low got a move on, greatly enhancing rain and then severe storms in the New River Valley. Then ANOTHER timing issue. Because the rain too so long to move along die to the low taking its time, the storms held there own, even though the sun was now setting. Still, the wind shear was high on almost every level, but without something to act on, like a storm, the wind shear goes to waste. That happened tonight. Moreover, but the time a decent areas of storms finally did get going again, the wind shear had moved east, leaving us with dying, gusty storms. Still, there were numerous reports of trees down in the NRV from the wind around the system. In summary, we had ALL of the ingredients for some major severe weather and flooding. But instead of mixing everything together, every - literally - important ingredient came in either just a little too early or a little too late. And in the fickle world of weather, that makes all of the difference. But again, it wasnt all wrong... people lost power and there wee lots of tree limbs down along with trees mainly inn the NRV. Even the SPC issued tornado watch early in the day as the storm was moving in. Then the storm stalled. LOL. From there, it was honestly a chain reaction. Well count our blessings that there wasnt a tornado or flood and move on! We concentrate in meteorology SO MUCH on the ingredients, we forget that they have to be mixed just right to do what we think will happen. At least I didnt have to stay up all night as earlier planned and we did keep you up to do date with our webcasts. Im ready to get home and get a little sleep before coming in for the morning show. I hope you at least learned some things this week about what we weather people do for living :-) THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR NICE MESSAGES AND NEW FOLLOWERS! God Bless You all, friends! And your support ;-) This could have been much worse.
