So yesterday I went for dinner at one of my favorite little restaurants here in Nairobi. Its a rather nice and cozy place with a big barbecue grill and a window in the corner with a side of goat hanging in it. You can just select the cut of goat you want and they lay it down on a big stump and chop it up with a meat cleaver and throw it on the grill right in front of you. It is delicious and quite the cultural experience! Yesterday I was surprised to find they were all out of goat, but the waitress assured me they had some fresh stuff coming in shortly. Seconds later man entered with fully live goat slung over her shoulder. He lay it down on a tarp behind the pool table……. Seconds later, my server returned to inform me I could go and select my cut of meat now. At least I know it was fresh.
