So, yesterday Im up at 4 am and standing on the deck of a beautiful $60k bass boat in Maysville Ky. by 6. Im excited, nervous, and ready to see what the day will bring. The tournament director leads us in a short prayer. They begin playing the national anthem. Ive done this 100 times before. Life is good. This time though, something is a little different. Suddenly I am overcome by anxiety and even fear. I cant stop thinking about my son, Kory over in Afghanistan. I look around at the 102 boats with the 203 other fisherman in them and I can only think about how insignificant it all seems. Ive waited for this all week, worked harder this week just to be here, and even lost a little sleep over it, but all of a sudden I would rather be standing in the middle of Seven-Mile Creek in sand filled gym shoes, catching bluegills with my sons, Brandon and Kory. I went on to have a rough day of fishing where I only caught 6 or 8 small fish. It rained quite a bit and the sun never shined. But on a tough day where 102 co-anglers only caught 62 bass, I was one of the lucky ones. My 1 keeper was so little it had to be measured 2 times and barely reached the mark of being legal (12 inches). But once again, I was lucky. Now, I sit here thinking just how lucky I am. Lucky to have 2 great sons, a loving family, and some great friends. Lucky to live in a country where I am free to chase little green fish with a pole and a hook. Lucky???.......no.........BLESSED!!!!
