So .....you guys know that I love to run around in the woods a little bit. Ever since I started running long distances, they thirst became to push farther and farther; not faster and faster. My fastest 5K ever was 25 minutes and 52 seconds, and that was on asphalt with a nice big downhill for the last mile. Todd Bowser: this was while we were in PA staying at your moms house. Note: I had to go UP that same hill during the 1st mile. YIKES!) All that said, I have never done 5K in under 30 minutes on trail before. Not that Ive really aspired to it, or even attempted it purposefully; its just that the places I enjoy running have a lot of ups and downs, and technical trial...not so conducive for pushing the pace if youre a newer ultra runner like myself. BUT: Today, I decided to be purposeful with my time...to give a focused best shot to go 5K under 30 minutes while on trail. Now mind you, on trail you always run slower pace than asphalt or concrete. Concrete is fastest, asphalt a little slower, and trail significantly slower because you dont get the recoil from the hard surface. So trail gives a much better work out for your legs because you have to work harder, but you also sacrifice on time. Long story short: I DID IT! I did 5k in 29 minutes and 52 seconds on trail!! Now I know for all you speedsters out there, that doesnt mean much to YOU. But to ME it meant a LOT! I dont have the physique of a gazelle...Im not super lean...I started my running career at almost 40 years of age...and I havent trained for speed at ALL. So I am very VERY proud to have my 1st trail 5k at under 30 minutes under my belt! For those of you who have read this far.....THANKS! I appreciate you caring about my little corner of the world. Keep cheering me on...I have big plans this year! (Can you say 50 miler????) #Project10 #Project10Kids #Challenge #excusedepartmentclosed
