“Sociologist Christian Smith and researchers George Barna and David Kinnaman have independently concluded that the majority of young evangelicals are not able to articulate their faith. They belong to a faith system that depends on verbal spread of the message, but they themselves can’t explain it. If evangelical millennials cannot typically articulate the message of Jesus as Savior, then the bleed out of evangelicals may accelerate as these teens and 20-somethings age into positions of influence, parenthood, and leadership of evangelical institutions.
