Solar Update Good morning. Attached is an updated image of the visible solar disk on Saturday. Solar activity declined to low levels with only minor C-Class activity detected within the past 24 hours. Although in a state of decay, sunspot 1890 remains the largest visible Earth facing region and continues to maintain a Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration. There will remain a chance for an isolated moderate to strong solar flare within the next 24-48 hours. All other regions remain stable. Geomagnetic activity remains elevated near minor storm levels. The solar wind stream is currently above 500 km/s and the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) did spend several hours pointed sharply south. Visible aurora was reported at high latitudes early this morning. Periods of minor storming will be possible during the next 24 hours while Earth remains under the influence of a Coronal Hole High Speed Stream (CH HSS). Proton levels streaming past Earth remain slightly enhanced following the X1 solar flare early Friday. The eruption did generate a coronal mass ejection (CME) with a mostly southward trajectory. A glancing blow impact to our geomagnetic field will be possible within 48-72 hours. A widespread increase in geomagnetic activity is not expected at this time.
