Some Team Sweat supporters from Indonesia have recently raised concerns that if workers get the raise in the minimum wage they are seeking that it will harm the Indonesian economy. This could not be further from the truth. I offer the following commentary by Former U.S. Secretary of Labor to explain why raising the minimum wage is good for workers, the middle class and the economy. In this piece, Reich is talking about the USA, but the theories would still hold for Indonesia. All you need to do is plug in locally relevant numbers. My advice would be for everyday Indonesians to stop listening to the neo-liberal advice of the World Bank, the IMF and the foreign investors and to listen to someone like Reich, someone who actually cares about people, most importantly the working class and the middle class. Peace, Jim Keady
