Some background...The Sacramento area has a vibrant, active and growing community of meditation groups based on various schools of Buddhist philosophy and teachings. These groups often meet in less than ideal rental spaces in churches or other venues. Over a year ago people from several of these groups began to discuss the benefits of sharing a dedicated sanctuary and meeting space. The time, energy and cost of creating a space like this would be beyond the means of most of the individual groups. Out of these discussions we decided to form a new charitable non-profit, Sacramento Dharma Center, for the purpose of creating, maintaining, and managing a building dedicated to meditation and Buddhist study. The first year or so our activities will be primarily planning, fund raising, locating, and leasing or purchasing a space. Three groups, Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group (SBMG), Valley Streams Zen Sangha (VSZS) and Sacramento Insight Meditation (SIM), have agreed to this arrangement when an adequate site is developed.
