Some belated posts from Evan: -I neglected to post a special tribute to Roger Ebert on Friday, due to time constraints and all-around exhaustion. Regardless, I regret to give proper notice and send-off to him on his one-year anniversary. To keep it short, he is one of the defining influences in keeping this group going and a reason to consider the movies more than just fleeting pop culture, but a testament to our times and what we can achieve and what we strive to see in our media. We miss you everyday, Roger. -Needless to say, #BadWords is way better than Akeelah and the Bee. Jason Bateman directs with a sharp eye for dark and crass comedy with a solid cast and the right execution for this kind of story without falling into mushy tripe. Keep an eye out for a Movie Aftermath on it later this week. - While I work on the #CaptainAmerica Movie Aftermath, heres a classic written review: The Winter Soldier is another successful big step for the MCU; taking on new genres, stakes, and risks in its plotting, execution, and scale without compromising on the simple popcorn fun of the Marvel brand. Joe and Anthony Russo reveal incredible chops and potential as action directors with easily the best action on any of the MCU films to date (fans of #TheRaid will notice many similarities) while the cast, new and old, ensure the steady transition into the official Phase Two aspect of the build-up to Age of Ultron.
