Some days are experiences of empty space. Empty space days take - TopicsExpress

Some days are experiences of empty space. Empty space days take some getting used to because we are creatures who prefer days that come packaged with assignments. We prefer to greet the day already prepared for what we think we are going to encounter. We hold tight to calendars and date books and schedules - these are our guarantees that the dragons of sudden, unwanted change will not - indeed, cannot - come sweeping across the horizon of our landscape, headed toward our personal hamlet. No, empty space is not something we trust. And yet, there are days - like this one - in which we awake to the sensation that we are in enveloped by absolute emptiness. What does that sensation feel like? It is the opposite of feeling as if you have had life drained out of you. Emptiness happens when you have had experiences that have come and gone, but as the experience exits your life, it takes something of your life with it. You are left with the sensation that something of you has gone missing....or has needed to be removed. The empty space you feel is both the end of something and the beginning of something. If you sit quietly in solitude of emptiness, you can feel that pulse of the archetype of death and rebirth, that ever present cycle of life working its way through the cell tissue of your psyche and soul. Empty space is anything but empty. Today I am in the solitude of empty space and I am imagining sharing that space with so many of you. —Caroline Myss
