Some diet tips for Bartter syndrome. Avoid caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee, they deplete potassium levels. Soda drinks not good for you. You need well balanced diet daily. Sodium chloride (any table salt)is very important in your diet, consume generously, to maintain the balance between the intra cellular and extra cellular fluids: - Generously use salt in cooking. - Other sources of salts are - baking soda and baking powder , monosodium glutamate and sodium benzoate. Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion salt, garlic salt and buillon salt all very beneficial for BS. - Use foods rich in sodium- eggs,milk, fish, meat, poultry, green leafy vegetables any kind, radish,beet root, potatoes, carrot, cauliflower, cumin seeds, sunflower seeds,pumpkin seeds, etc. - Japanese sea - arame, hijiki, kombu and nori. - Seaweeds are very rich in many nutrients and very beneficial for BS/GS individuals. Tomatoes, olives, celery and lettuce are great source of chloride,that is important for your diet. . Increase intake of K in your diet: Eat more Fish like salmon, flounder, cod and sardines. Use fresh Vegetables like broccoli, lima beans, any kind of peas, cucumbers, potatoes and tomatoes especially if you eat it with their skins. Use fresh or frozen vegetables. Japanese sea plants are good sourceof K and other minerals . Eat arame, hijiki, kombu and nori. Any green leafy vegetables like parsley, spinach, lettuce and other contain K and magnesium. Eat any citrus fruits like oranges, lemons,mandarin, banana and apricots dried ones or fresh are high in potassium. Coconut water is the great source of K. Sea salt, medditarianian salt, pink salt and simple table salt are the best and easy source of K. Anyone think of something we missed, please feel free to add it.
