YOU TOO CAN SAVE A LIFE! At times we under-estimate injuries suffered by our colleagues while at work or when involved in an accident. Some life threatening conditions are occasionally reported resulting from injuries that seemed non-fatal at the moment of injury or Accident. It is however possible to avert this danger and minimize the fatalities that would come as a result of the “seemingly” minor injuries. We can save a life by giving First Aid to the injured persons. WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION;- 1. IS CASUALTY RESPONSIVE?? - Shout for help - Open causality’s Airway 2. IS CASUALITY BREATHING? - Place casualty in Recovery position 3. IS CASUALTY NOT BREATHING? - Call for medical rescue team and meanwhile; - Do 30 chest compressions, Give 2 rescue breaths - Repeat 30 chest compressions, Give 2 rescue breaths 4. IS CAUALTY BREATHING NOW? - Place casualty in recovery Position and keep watching until medical team arrives. 5. IS CAUALTY STILL NOT BREATHING? - Continue 30 chest compressions ,Give 2 rescue breaths - Repeat 30 chest compressions and Give 2 rescue breaths until Medical rescue team arrives. 6. IN CASE OF SEVERE BLEEDING; - Apply direct pressure to the wound - Raise and support the injured part(unless Broken) - Apply a clean dressing and bandage firmly 7. IF YOU SUSPECT BROKEN BONES AND/OR SPINAL INJURY - Only obtain expert help. DO NOT move casualty unless there is immediate danger. 8. IN CASE OF BURNS; - Cool affected part of body with cold running water until pain is relieved for about 10 minutes; this shouldn’t delay taking casualty to hospital. - In case burns are caused by chemical, avoid contaminating self with chemical. 9. IF IT IS INJURY TO THE EYE; - All eye injuries are potentially serious, if there is foreign body DO NOT attempt to remove it, wash out the eye with clean water to remove only loose material. - If injury is due to chemical, flush with clean water for about 10 minutes - Ask casualty to hold a pad over the eye and send them to Hospital.
