Some food for thoughts after the tragic events in Paris. There is an African proverb which says if you don t initiate the young into the tribe, they will burn the village, just to feel its warmth I find this proverb to be very relevant to the events unfolding in Paris. Indeed, I have been witnessing for a while now, every time I hang out in Paris or France, the complete disenchantment and and disengagement, a very high proportion of th French youth from black and ethnic minority groups have for the French society in general. A lot of them, just seem to have been abandoned and sacrificed by their fellow community members and country. This make them ideal preys for any radical and extremists ideological guru in search for new recruits. Although the time, now is for mourning the innocent victims of these tragic events and to pray for their families, I sincerely hope that anyone who is really serious about fighting extremism in all ways, shapes and forms in France or in any other country in the World directly or indirectly affected by these events will start by showing more love and more respect to their people in general and specifically their youth; especially those from black and ethnic minority communities. I believe finding ways of making these communities feel more part of the society fabric would be one of th best ways to tackle extremism and secure a more peaceful and harmonious world for future generations.
