Some friars from the local monastery decided to open up a flower shop in order to raise some money for the poor. Their business quickly became very popular. Not only were their arrangements beautiful, but people liked the fact that the money was going for a worthy cause. It was a win-win for everyone...except the local competing florist. The competitor came to the florist shop and asked the friars if they could find another business since theirs was taken business away from his. They sympathized, but declined. The friars didnt really have any expertise in anything else and if they tried to open another business, then they could end up losing money for their worthy deeds. The competitor was furious. He tried picketing the florist shop, but this led only to more customers to the friars. He went to the city council, but was told that the friars were within their rights and there was nothing it could do. He even invested in more advertising, but this just made his profit margin even smaller. Finally, in desperation, he began to ask around for a hit man. This led him to a fellow named Hugh. I want you to kill them all and burn down their business, the florist told Hugh. However, Hugh didnt think much about resorting to such violence against men of the cloth. With all the bad things he had done in his life, he figured this would be hard to explain to St. Peter when the time came for him to shuffle off his mortal coil. So he told the florist not to worry, he will take care of things without having to resort to such extreme violence. The next day, Hugh went to visit the Friars florist shop. By late that afternoon, the Friars were out of business, the shop was boarded up, and the friars were all back safely at the monastery. History does not provide what made the friars surrender their business and the friars, honoring a vow of silence, arent talking. But one thing is for sure. Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars. I like puns.
