Some have argued that Eric Garner should have simply complied when police indicated they might arrest him. There is no statement in this video from officers saying, Sir, youre under arrest for ____. It could have happened before Orta began recording, but according to Garner, Orta, and others nearby, Garner was not selling loosies but had just broken up a fight before officers approached him. Garner was trying to tell them that, pleading with them to leave him alone because he hadnt committed a crime, when they tried to apprehend him, and the infamous chokehold commenced. Now, his noncompliance aside, the man lay on the ground unconscious and STILL handcuffed for several minutes before EMS arrived. He received no oxygen mask despite his cry before passing out. No CPR was performed. His handcuffs were not removed so he could lie on his back and potentially gain more air. Nothing. He was restrained, on his side until lifted on the gurney. He said, I cant breathe, at least 10 times with officers on top of him before losing consciousness. The incident begins about 1 minute into this video.
