Some memories... while at Makuyu Primary in late 80s & 90s, wed such a mixed population of especially Kambas, Luos, Boranas and Luhyas. During the time when those that had either paid or not paid school fees would be read, we would laugh silly at our headteacher (Wandome) who would pronounce most non-Kikuyu names with lots of difficulty e.g Sasba Garogaro Mboru (Galgalo Boru), Ari Sadiki (Ali Saadique) or Daniel Okutoyi (he would say Okotoye). The beauty was that we grew up knowing there were other Kenyans as well. I visited the same primary school in March this year and its still multicultural, though to a lesser extent than the 1990s. Im proud of Makuyu!
