Some more photos from Moffett Field today, now NASA Ames Research Center. Hanger 1 was built to house the USS Macon, a Goodyear Zeppelin Company built airship that was able to carry and launch (and retrieve) airplanes in the air. A flying aircraft carrier. The skin of the hanger was removed a few years ago as it was environmentally a problem. There was some talk that Google (who uses the airstrip there) might restore it. My father (in the day) worked for the Navy (the US airship program was the US Navy) and had an office in the hanger that is in Akron, a slightly larger (for bragging rights) version of this hanger.
