Some of my best friends in the Trans* community are Trans* women - TopicsExpress

Some of my best friends in the Trans* community are Trans* women and men of colour. And disproportionately, they are subject to increased hatred, violence, and discrimination, and I will do ANYTHING up to and including giving my life to ensure they are safe, loved, employed, housed, have access to medical care, and supported. It is soul destroying to know that they may be in danger. The reason that TDOR exists is because Trans Women, especially, are being violently slaughtered on the street, and the majority of those Women are of a group of visible minorities. I suffered. I suffered something awful and paid some pretty horrible prices. But out of will and determination I pulled myself out of that and am now in a good place. Did that happen because I am a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant? Perhaps. I cant even begin to imagine what discrimination looks like for some of my friends. All I can do is support, love, and slightly empathise. I never thought about things in terms of race until today. People are people, to me no matter what color they are or what they are about. I love them and admire them all equally. Some may say that I am racist simply because I belong to white privilege. How can I defend that? I cant. The same way I cant defend being Trans*. I was born that way. But what I can do is keep working for everyone, which is what I will continue to do. This is my last post on this entire subject for awhile. Im back to getting things worked out for people. And I am sure you are tired of hearing it. You probably have Rachelfatigue (TM) and I dont blame you! But as I move forward with advocacy, it is important to set this foundation. Im working hard, trying to understand all the issues, and knowing I can never solve them all. I will do my best and I will make mistakes along the way. I can only hope that I can be forgiven as much as I forgive. Peace, Love, and Cocoa Puffs, Rachel
