Some of my friends and I have counted our acquaintances who were killed during the war in our country, and we categorized them –may they rest in peace– into two distinct groups. As to the first group, the number of deaths has been officially registered and acknowledged within the statistics of the United Nations amounting to ninety three thousand (93,000) people killed. While the first group has been officially acknowledged, the second group comprises non-registered deaths and remains officially unacknowledged for various different reasons and conditions. Accordingly, a simple calculation informed us that the death toll in Syria exceeds four hundred and twenty thousand (420,000) and possibly up to five hundred thousand people (500,000), with a margin of error of course. Thus, about two of every one hundred Syrians have been killed during this atrocious war. On this painful occasion, there must be a pause and a deep consultation with our conscience. We are all human beings, diverse in our believes and backgrounds, but we all inhabit a land we thought it was our country, our nation, our home! Sadly, so many of us have proved to be inventive and skillful in killing ourselves... Ignorance and lack of education is shooting us into a dark endless tunnel in which the light at the end cannot be seen, not even a glimpse of it... Selfishness is perishing its own before they perish others... For generations, we have abandon education and science, justice and law, and civilization and heritage, all for the benefit of ignorance, injustice and underdevelopment. As a result, the majority of us became an example of the enemy to one’s self and its killer! Sadly and unfortunately, there are people amongst us today who kill just for the sake of killing... who kill for pleasure, for malevolence or for revenge... and not in aid or defence of humanity and sanity! And to add insult to injury, the enormous pool of people who gathered to kill us transcended and surpassed even the basic logic of interests... stripped of ethics and morals... transgressed all accounts and common sense to disease and hysteria that burns them before it burns us... and yet, they do not care! They are the worst of enemies! We are a nation in its way for obliteration... in a path in which our bodies are being killed after the death of our hearts, souls and morals. Only the almighty is our saviour now! To all of our friends, those who helped us, cried us and shared with us their bread and rifles I say thanks with our love, dignity and eternal appreciation! As for those humans who chickened out from supporting right and justice and dissuaded themselves of countenancing and supporting our wounded country citing various excuses from inability to busyness... to other impertinent excuses such as different skin and hair colour to the differences in the drawings and colours in the country’s flag. Our pride prevents us from asking for your help... So go ahead in your ignorant life and continue to be distracted... Today we do not anymore address in you any conscience nor plea any morals... either they –your conscience, common sense and morals– wake up on their own or we are not interested in whatever is left of them... but know that you reap what you sow... and what happened to your family today will be the fate of your children tomorrow... so let your will to them be that “I am your murderer today my sons so forgive me for I killed you the minute I did not eradicate injustice against my family... I killed you when I was greedy and deprived my brethren in humanity of myself, my time and my wealth... I killed you the day I turned away from injustice and left it raping righteousness, goodness and beauty”. God have mercy on all of us for there is no better than your compassion, clemency, kindness and mercy... as always.
