Some of my friends will probably disagree strongly with me about this, but I agree with the mayor: Dont break the law. (At the very least, if you do break the law, you must plan and expect to be arrested and then fined or jailed, according to the ruling of the court.) No matter how important the argument over the pipeline is, it is less important than respecting and maintaining the rule of law. That includes obeying a court injunction. Certainly if there are ways to appeal the injunction and continue the legal fight, you do it. But respecting the authority of the court system is the indispensable foundation of civilization. You might say that the Harper government is constantly ignoring the rule of law, and I would agree with you. But even if that is true, the fact that your opponent violates the most fundamental principles of justice does not give you any right to do the same.
