Some people getting Meridianite Picnic mixed up with Mississippi Picnic. Meridianite Picnic comes around every 5 years and Mississippi Picnic comes around every 10 years. I must say Im proud this Picnic following while this town had it very first black mayor and also because it following right after the weekend which mark the 50 years anniversary of the three fallen stars James Earl Chaney, Michael Henry Schwerner and Andrew Goodman. We have those who sometimes say negative things about Highland Park because the pass history of crimes going on inside the park but on yesterday thousands of visitors from all over united state and hometown citizens shown up and had a wonderful time therefore the park is not bad after all but heres something that made me proud..I love seeing people being real and being themselves even when they not knowing anybody watching. On yesterday Mayor Percy Bland put one of the biggest smile on my face when i saw him out playing basketball with the kids and taking pictures with the kids..this what you call being real and never forgetting your roots...thanks Mayor for showing those kids a great time!!!!
