Some people in our state have a grotesque misconception that people in valley voted to defeat BJP and hence a heavy turnover was a knee-jerk reaction to keep the communal elements away from their entry into the secular political fortess of valley. This generalization which is being whispered in masses and knowingly propagated is not only fallacious but equally condemnable. There is no base in such brazen assumptions that are made to stigmatize Kashmiri people as communal. People in valley gave majority to PDP in view of its well known agenda of equitable development and its transparency of governance that our state witnessed in their previous tenure of just three years in 2003-2006. Had it been a mandate on communal lines then PDP would have acquired additional 5-7 seats in valley and other parties would have been completed choked. PDP lost these 5-7 seats in constituencies whereby its previously elected representatives had not performed well and hence were shunted out. So despite a huge public participation of around 70% this party still couldnt get an expected mandate in valley!!! So where comes the question of voting on communal lines?
